Protest Policies & Resources
Promoting free expression and free inquiry on Grounds is core to our mission and integral to who we are.
That commitment to protect and promote expressive activity lives alongside a responsibility to ensure that the Grounds are equally open and accessible to all members of the University community, and that we offer our students, faculty, staff, and visitors a safe and welcoming environment in which to live, learn, and work as we maintain normal operations.
For faculty, staff, students, or student organizations planning expressive activity on Grounds or anticipating expressive activity at their on-Grounds event, please consider contacting the Free Speech Liaisons at uvafreespeechliaison@virginia.edu. Liaisons include faculty and staff members who are knowledgeable of University speech (i.e., time, place, and manner) policies and can assist with providing guidance around adhering to these policies. They may also be able to assist with on-site support for de-escalation and policy compliance.
